Today the Google machine leaked the news that the 2015 Zo6 will come equipped with a 620hp/650ft lbs Lt(?) V8. I wondered, has any manufacturer offered to the public so many high performance V8s, ever, in the history, " Of The World ?"

Even if we don't consider the totally utilitarian but stout truck motors, today GM gives us at least a half dozen high performance V8s, from which to choose...

-LS3, 430hp, available in: Camaro SS, Chevy SS, crate motor.

-LT1-DI, 455hp, available in: 2014 Corvette-Stingray

-LS7, 505hp, available in: Corvette Zo6, Camaro Z28, crate motor.

-LSA, 556-580hp, available in: Cadillac CTS-V, Camaro ZL1, crate motor.

-LT(wha?), 620hp, available in: 2015 C7 Corvette Zo6

-LS9, 638hp, available in: Corvette Zr1, crate motor.

Has any other manufacturer ever been so drunk on power, or it's ability to produce HP so cheaply and efficiently that ever offered six different 400+hp V8s at any one time?

What about the 400hp Escalade motor? Truck motors should count too.

Probably not!

This news is insane.

If it's true then everyone from Nissan to Porsche to Ferrari is shaking in their boots today.

While not every buyer makes decisions based on specs a lot of them do. More expensive cars will need to have power figures that are at least in the ballpark of the Z06 to sustain sales.

I'm a Porsche owner and I know that power isn't everything. I'll accept having less HP than a Corvette to get the light front end and special H6 feel. But I also made my decision 3 years ago when I got a used 997. If next year I found myself deciding between a new 911 or a new Z06 I definitely might go the Z06 route. Which is exactly what Chevy is hoping for.

I really think the C7 Corvette is going to bring in a lot of buyers that weren't "Corvette Guys". Tons of 911, GTR, etc. fans will be seriously evaluating the C7 before they make their next purchase.

Great job Chevy! You have pushed the envelope forward in a big way.

Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Benz will likely never be concerned with anything GM does. There are way to many enthusiasts that think everything American is crap and can't corner. It's like the world thinks Detroit has not progress passed 1971.

General Motors seems like it can only best itself for a wide variety of V8s. At least these are all in the same engine family, nearly every division had a completely different big block pushing easily pushing north of 300 HP in 1970. While modern HP numbers have surpassed them, the numbers were very impressive back then and the cars were able to pull off some of the best performance for the time on stupidly skinny bias-plys.

Oldsmobile Rocket 455 with W30 variant

Chevy 454 with LS6 variant

Buick 455 with Stage 1 variant

Pontiac 455

Cadillac 500

Each division also had a unique small block and they had performance variants as well. The Olds 350 had the W31 and the Chevy 350 had the LT1, etc.

If you wanted a variety of choices for a high performance V8, you went to the General.
